VIRTUAL POETRY BOOK CLUB // The "Locas mujeres" Poems of Gabriela Mistral
Due to COVID-19, this will now be a VIRTUAL bookclub hosted by Zoom conference.
RSVP to firstname.lastname@example.org to receive the meeting link and password.
The March Poetry Book Club pick is Madwomen: The "Locas mujeres" Poems of Gabriela Mistral, a Bilingual Edition by Gabriela Mistral.
This is a free event. No purchase is necessary to attend, but you can purchase the book ahead of time on our website here.
Each month, Poetry Club meets to discuss one must-read book of poems, whether a timeless classic or an award-winning contemporary. Led by Napa poet Kathleen Patterson, who has been an enthusiastic book club member since its beginning, meetings are open to all levels of poetry readers, both the curious and the committed.
A schoolteacher whose poetry catapulted her to early fame in her native Chile and an international diplomat whose boundary-defying sexuality still challenges scholars, Gabriela Mistral (1889–1957) is one of the most important and enigmatic figures in Latin American literature of the last century.
